Learning a new language may be difficult, and speaking new words may sound unfamiliar. Writing foreign sentences? That may take a minute or two. Nevertheless, our Roadrunners rose to meet the challenge, and they made sure to beat the competition.
Students taught by Dr. Nancy Mason participated in an annual state-wide Spanish composition contest sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. Each participant had to write a 200-word essay in Spanish on an assigned topic in one hour, without the aid of a dictionary or electronic device. Categories included regular students and those with experience in Spanish.
There were four levels of recognition, ranging from Superior, Excellent, Notable and Participation. Representing Dalton State were:
- Jennifer D. Pacheco and Clarissa Boker: Superior
- Savannah F. McGee and Niveen F. Marouf: Excellent
- Theodore Joseph Gough, Craig J. Dunnell, Jr., and Sigrid D. Marler: Notable
- Miriah Goins and Shon B. McMahan: Participation
